The 9th of Av is one of the most serious Jewish fast days of the year, it is a full fast like Yom Kippur and it begins at sundown Tonight (Monday night). We will be having the traditional reading of Eicha (lamentations) followed by a very powerful film entitled “Hiding and Seeking” which follows an observant Jewish fathers concerns that his children are being radicalized. The film brings up very important issues in regards to hate, tolerance and Jewish reactions to the non jewish world in an era where they experienced a Holocaust. BYOP Bring Your Own Pillow, the custom is to sit on the floor during the most sad day as in the time of mourning.
Tuesday night 7:45 PM Mincha in Tefillin (no class) and Break-Fast
Traditionally, the 9th of Av, is the only weekday which one does not put on Tefillin or a Tallit during the morning services. Join us for the afternoon service at 7:45 as we will put on Tefillin and read the Torah. We will then finish off the Fast day with the evening services in time to break the fast at 9:02PM Breakfast over Bagels, Lox and Cream cheese.
