Monday Night Course-

Last week we discussed why God created the world. We closely examined the kabalistic approach of Rabbi Chaim Luzzato whose explanation suggests that God “needed” to create the world to actualize His essence of goodness. Today we will examine an approach which may be interpreted as objecting to the implication that God created from need. We will then go on to discuss why worship of other “gods” is forbidden by the Torah and why God is referred to as a “jealous God.” Join us, even if you have not come before, for a profoundly interesting and deeply moving analysis of the fundamental beliefs of Judaism.
Given by Rabbi Jeol ZeffThe class can be attended on a per class basis for $10
Their programs focus on the needs of children and their parents, empowering them to move from their current crisis back to self sufficiency.
Email Anna to register and join our gorup. It will involve preparing and serving a festive fall meal to families. Let this be the honey to your apple, volunteer today!

Lulav and Etrog ordering details:

Dear Intowners:

Although is past the deadline for ordering ARBA MINIM (four species, better-known as Lulav and Etrog) for Sukkot from the distributor, we atIntown Chabad have been given SPECIAL CONSIDERATION in honor of our burgeoning Downtown (Uptown? Intown?) Dallas Jewish Community, and due to our support of Rabbi Drizin and Intown Chabad. Therefore, we will be able to get lulavim and etrogim, but they MUST BE ORDERED BEFORE TOMORROW MORNING!
It is a very important mitzvah to take and shake your own lulav. Why? That’s why we pay our Rabbi- to answer such important questions.
Here’s one answer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EC4IVe61p-0
Seriously, if you want Arba Minim, contact me, Larry Baitch, at lbaitch@live.com. A set costs just $60 (our cost); save money by buying two for $119.99! The price has gone up from last year due to the fact that the is a lulav shortage- all lulavim are coming from California, not Egypt as they usually are.
I will pick them up and the distributors and you can pick them at Intown Chabad on Friday afternoon.
Don’t miss out!! Don’t get caught on Sukkot standing there empty-handed while everyone marches around the shul with their Arba Minim!
Place your order NOW!!
Thanks Dr. Larry Baitch

Challenge Grant 2011

Do you love what The Intown Chabad is doing for our young adult community? Why don’t you help us out! Here is a perfect way to do it.
If you have never donated before, a $180 will get matched with a $500 donation! That means your 180 will turn into 680, which will go a long way to support our programming focused on young adults!
If you have donated in the past, your $180 will get matched with a $250 donation!
You can also spread it out at $18 a month and TIC still will still get the match.
Did you know that there are close to 100 of your peers who are contributing monthly to make the Intown Chabad a possibility? Join them now by clicking here
And in the evening we dance our hearts out with the two young Texans who would be graced if you joined them.

——————————
Thoughts from the AIPAC policy conference
Sitting in a hall with 10,000 supporters of Israel is really a special thing. Sitting and listening to the president speak, is a lifetime experience ( though we could do without much of the content of his comments) Thinking about Jewish history and where we are today is mind blowing. But standing together with so many Jews of different backgrounds is just always the coolest thing! We are here with a delegation of about 40 young adults and interacting with so many Jewish people all united in support of Israel just makes me want to scream “am yisroel chai”!
But its not just Jewish people.
I little while back, I was walking through Stanley Korshak and I heard a voice call out ” are you a Rabbi?” I turn around to see an african american sales women , I asked ” how do you know?” And she proceeds to tell me how much she loves the Jewish people. She is an Elder at the Potter House church and wanted to know many things about Judaism. She came over to Chabad some time later with a bunch of questions and even attended a service. I had mentioned to her that she should get active in the pro Israel community. She said she would love to. It turns out that one of her clients at Stanley Korshak was one of the biggest activists in Aipac. To make a long story short, she is now with us at the conference as we spread the message of cross religious and denominational support of Israel.
But the best of them all happened this week. I get a facebook message from a young guy from St. Petersburg who had just moved to Dallas and he said he wanted to get involved with Chabad, he had heard that we do work with young adults. So I right away invite him over for Shabbat dinner, on the way home from Shul we were chatting about his background and what got him to Dallas and how did he reach me. He told me that a while back in Russia, his Rabbi there got him a pair of Tefillin for his birthday. Not knowing how to put them on, he googled how to put on Tefilin. The first result was my video on “how to put on Tefillin” and he noticed that the handle on the youtube account was chabad in dallas. “being that I knew I would be moving to Dallas soon, I started looking at the other videos and decided that I would connect with you once I got here”. I was obviously really excited, it totally made my night!
For better or for worse, this world is a small place. Whatever you put out there makes a difference.
Oh and by the way GO MAVS! (sorry to our LA friends, and my upbringing in LA)
