Topic: Ushpizin Film Screening.
I find this to be one of the best films I Have seen. It tells a tale of a bunch of misshaps with this one Jerusalem family. Interstingly, the main actor was a huge film star in Israel, he then became religious and stopped acting. He only agreed to do this film when they said his real wife could be his wife in the film.

Mitzvah Day Sunday October 30th
Start your new year off with a mitzvah! The Intown Chabad is joining the Jewish Federation of Dallas for a wonderful Mitzvah Day on October 30th, 2011.
We will be putting together a delicious dinner for families at Family Gateway, a local shelter that provides housing and comprehensive services to homeless families with children. Their programs focus on the needs of children and their parents, empowering them to move from their current crisis back to self sufficiency.
Email Anna to register and join our gorup. It will involve preparing and serving a festive fall meal to families. Let this be the honey to your apple, volunteer today!

Monday Night Course-

Last week we discussed why God created the world. We closely examined the kabalistic approach of Rabbi Chaim Luzzato whose explanation suggests that God “needed” to create the world to actualize His essence of goodness. Today we will examine an approach which may be interpreted as objecting to the implication that God created from need. We will then go on to discuss why worship of other “gods” is forbidden by the Torah and why God is referred to as a “jealous God.” Join us, even if you have not come before, for a profoundly interesting and deeply moving analysis of the fundamental beliefs of Judaism.

Dear Intowners:

Although is past the deadline for ordering ARBA MINIM (four species, better-known as Lulav and Etrog) for Sukkot from the distributor, we atIntown Chabad have been given SPECIAL CONSIDERATION in honor of our burgeoning Downtown (Uptown? Intown?) Dallas Jewish Community, and due to our support of Rabbi Drizin and Intown Chabad. Therefore, we will be able to get lulavim and etrogim, but they MUST BE ORDERED BEFORE TOMORROW MORNING!
It is a very important mitzvah to take and shake your own lulav. Why? That’s why we pay our Rabbi- to answer such important questions.

This course taught by world class scholar (bio below) R’ Joel Zeiff will cover Maimonides’ 13 principles of Jewish faith.

BIO:
Rabbi Joel Zeff holds a BA from UCLA, in Hebrew Language, an MS in Jewish History from Yeshiva University, and received Rabbinic Ordination from the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary of Yeshiva University. He served as the spiritual leader of the Westwood Kehilla congregation in Los Angeles for seven years before moving to Israel in 1994. Under his leadership, the Westwood Kehilla became one of the most dynamic outreach-oriented synagogues in America. For the decade since making aliya he was Senior Lecturer at the David Shapell College of Jewish Studies in Jerusalem. From 2005 to 2010 Rabbi Zeff worked with Rabbi Shlomo Riskin in his Ohr Torah Stone Institutions. For the first two years, Rabbi Zeff was the founding director of the Glassman Center for Humanity (now known as the Center for Jewish-Christian Understanding). From 2007 to 2010, Rabbi Zeff served as Rosh Yeshiva/Dean of Yeshivat Torat Yosef-Hamivtar, succeeding its founder, Rabbi Chaim Brovender. During his tenure, the yeshiva experienced significant growth. Rabbi Zeff is internationally known as a particularly exciting and edifying speaker and teacher.

Film and Lamentations—-God on trial
The 9th of AV is one of the saddest days on the Jewish calendar. We commemorate many tragedy’s amongst them the destruction of Jerusalem and our 2 temples. Traditionally we fast for 26 hours and read lamentations.
At The Intown Chabad we will be showing an intensely provocative film together with The Tycher Library. God on Trial deals with some of the most fundamental questions to God. The film is set in Auschawitz as the Jewish inmates struggle with the meaning of their suffering.

If only Barea were Jewish
Mazel Tov Dallas. This city, deserves it! I couldn’t help thinking about Barea this whole series. This little Puerto Rican guy who just has Chutzpah! I mean the very definition of it. You have these big goons on the Miami team, and who is going to penetrate these huge mountains? Non of our big guys had the Chutzpah besides for this little guy who just runs straight into them time after time. Its not like he was perfect and its not like he always got it right, but he had the gall to go at it again and again. Now ain’t that the story of the Jewish people? Is that not what we are charged with? Going up again and again against the powers to be is what we do best. If you want to know where winning is really at, look at Barea. No matter what stands in your way, if you have enough resolve and belief in your cause you can get through anything! Now if only Barea were Jewish….
