What a month it has been! The high holidays were packed with non stop action. Beginning with Rosh Hashana all the way through Simchat Torah it was incredible. We were able to provide the full range of Young Jewish experiences from the social to the cullinary to the religious. So many have walked in through our doors with tons of new faces. In fact, we had over 250 different young Jewish adults experiencing the events, many of them multiple times! If you were not able to make it to anything, there are plenty of things going on through out the year! Thank you all for your continued support and input. Monday night course

Last session we discussed why God created the world. We closely examined the kabalistic approach of Rabbi Chaim Luzzato whose explanation suggests that God “needed” to create the world to actualize His essence of goodness. Today we will examine an approach which may be interpreted as objecting to the implication that God created from need. We will then go on to discuss why worship of other “gods” is forbidden by the Torah and why God is referred to as a “jealous God.”

Welcome home a hero- November 13th 12-4PM Check out who is coming and RSVP to join here At least one flight arrives at DFW airport daily bringing 150-250 U.S. soldiers home from deployment overseas, and since 2004, citizens have been allowed to come into the airport to greet the flights as part of a “Welcome Home a Hero” program. The Intown Chabad is organizing a group who will greet and show appreciation to our returning soldiers on Sunday, November 13th. Because the arrivals aren’t on regular commercial flights, we can’t be sure of the exact time we’ll need to be at the airport until the evening before we go. Lately, it appears that flights generally arrive around 12:30 PM (but it’s possible that we may have to be at the airport as early as 8:00 AM). Please expect to dedicate up to 4 hours if you can participate (leaving Dallas an hour before the scheduled arrival + two hours at the airport + the drive home). We hope to carpool from the Intown Chabad, but will also set up a meeting point in North Dallas if there are enough people leaving from there. Invite anyone who’d like to join! Topic: Ushpizin Film Screening.
I find this to be one of the best films I Have seen. It tells a tale of a bunch of misshaps with this one Jerusalem family. Interstingly, the main actor was a huge film star in Israel, he then became religious and stopped acting. He only agreed to do this film when they said his real wife could be his wife in the film.

Dear Friends,

This year has brought about a lot of change in the world, from the unrest in the middle east, to the death of Osama bin Laden and the fluctuation in the economy. The excitement of the world champion Dallas Mavericks and almost world champion Texas Rangers. This year has been filled with ups and downs, good and bad.
In our personal realm, our ups and downs may have mirrored those of the world we live in, but unlike the larger world around us where we may not have that much influence, in our own world we can really make a difference!

My wish for you this year is that it should be filled with revealed blessing, that you find the truth you seek, the partnership you desire, the strength to conquer your own hurdles, the love to fill your soul and share with those around you, the knowledge to choose the right path and the wisdom to embrace your choices.

On a daily basis, the choices you make, the interactions you have, the gifts you give, the love you share, they make a difference everyday to those around you and to the world at large. I am thankful that you have chosen to share part of yourself with me.

BIO————- “Rabbi Yaakov Moshe Poupko defines both the nature of man and the ethical challenge to the Jew through his literary, philosophical, and halachic inquiries into Biblical narratives and midrashic commentaries. He dramatically engages his listener as he skillfully applies the rich, classical interpretive tradition to examine the most mythic and mystifying Biblical and Talmudic texts.In the timeless encounter between man and his Creator, between talmid and text, imagination complements knowledge to provide interpretive solutions that aresensible, psychologically satisfying, and profound.” Rabbi Yaakov Moshe Poupko was ordained by Yeshivath Ner Israel where he earned hisMaster’s Degree in Talmudic Law in 1969. He continued his post-semicha studies in thefamed “Kodshim Chabura” of Beth Midrash Govoha of Lakewood where he held a selectgraduate instructorship in Jewish philosophy. He founded the Talmudic College of Florida andserved as its associate dean until his aliya in 1977. In Israel he served as dean of Yeshivat OhrTorah in Efrat. In 1986 Rabbi Poupko founded Kneseth Beth Eliezer , a yeshiva training studentswith a backround in public and organizational life for the rabbinate and offering programs forlaymen as well. He has also taught in various programsoffered to students at the Overseas Program at the Hebrew University and at the Bnai BrithHillel House on Mount Scopus at the University. Many of his weekly Torah lectures , havebeen broadcast on Israel National Radio and other stations. A lecture of his , delivered at theVan Leer Institute, was included in an anthology of contemporary Israeli thought publishedby Yediot Achronot. Articles of his on Talmud and Jewish philosophy have also appearedin the HaDarom scholarly journal. He has served asscholar-in-residence at the Marble Arch Synagogue of London,the Great Synagogue of Sydney, the Cape Town Hebrew Synagogue (S.A.) and the YoungIsrael Congregations of Woodmere, West Hempstead, Edison N.J. and the Spanish-PortugueseSynagogue of Manhattan, Shevet Achim of Seattle , as well as at other synagogues in NorthAmerica, Australia and the U.K. Rabbi Poupko also represented the Orthodox Union in itsdebate with the leadership of Israel’s Reform movement and was thrice selected by the SupremeCourt of Queens (N.Y.) to lecture the judges’ weekly study group. BIO:
Rabbi Joel Zeff holds a BA from UCLA, in Hebrew Language, an MS in Jewish History from Yeshiva University, and received Rabbinic Ordination from the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary of Yeshiva University. He served as the spiritual leader of the Westwood Kehilla congregation in Los Angeles for seven years before moving to Israel in 1994. Under his leadership, the Westwood Kehilla became one of the most dynamic outreach-oriented synagogues in America. For the decade since making aliya he was Senior Lecturer at the David Shapell College of Jewish Studies in Jerusalem. From 2005 to 2010 Rabbi Zeff worked with Rabbi Shlomo Riskin in his Ohr Torah Stone Institutions. For the first two years, Rabbi Zeff was the founding director of the Glassman Center for Humanity (now known as the Center for Jewish-Christian Understanding). From 2007 to 2010, Rabbi Zeff served as Rosh Yeshiva/Dean of Yeshivat Torat Yosef-Hamivtar, succeeding its founder, Rabbi Chaim Brovender. During his tenure, the yeshiva experienced significant growth. Rabbi Zeff is internationally known as a particularly exciting and edifying speaker and teacher.

Film and Lamentations—-God on trial
The 9th of AV is one of the saddest days on the Jewish calendar. We commemorate many tragedy’s amongst them the destruction of Jerusalem and our 2 temples. Traditionally we fast for 26 hours and read lamentations.
At The Intown Chabad we will be showing an intensely provocative film together with The Tycher Library. God on Trial deals with some of the most fundamental questions to God. The film is set in Auschawitz as the Jewish inmates struggle with the meaning of their suffering.

On the second sunday of every month join young Jewish adults from all over Dallas for an incredible evening of trivia, camaraderie and insane competition.
The Gingerman is THE beer garden of Uptown and its the best place to relax after the weekend, catch up with friends and maybe learn something new!
Winning Team will get a $25 Certificate at The Gingerman plus Something else really good that we will cook up between now and then!

What if I know nothing about Jewish trivia stuff can I still compete?
Yes, there will be mostly multiple choice questions, which gives you a 33.3% chance of always winning
What if I don’t know anyone?
You will meet all sorts of awesome people
How competitive is this?
we have no clue, we have no done it yet
What’s the secret of life?
Can’t say, its one of the trivia questions
Is this only for single people?
No. its for everyone.

They are asking for volunteers to sign up for 2 hour shifts and the rest of the day is your to enjoy for FREE. Email ArtsFestDallas@jccdallas.org today or check out the website for more information or the volunteer form.
And if you have a creative side and don’t mind taking risks, then email either Anna or Zvi to help out at The Intown Chabad booth. No worries, we’ll keep it fun… but we’ll also keep it interesting.
The Intown Chabad is starting a new team and we need all our fans to sign up. We would like to have an ongoing volunteer corp. that is willing to go to various volunteer oportunites that come through Intown throughout the year. If you are interested in signing up, please email us today!
